I know absolutely nothing about Elvira except the yearly Halloween advertisement. I was even oblivious to the tv shows and movies she appeared in, and I lived through the 80s.
What a life Cassandra Peterson lived prior to becoming her alter ego Elvira. As well as after. ⚠️
TW/CW: Chapter “You’ll Never Work in Hollywood Again” Cassandra shares traumatic SA experience. Skip chapter if you have to. The parts where she shares the verbal abuse she endured from her mother is unavoidable.
⚠️
The chapters about her stint as Elvira at the height of her popularity went by so fast I had to backtrack thinking I missed something. Regardless of being clueless of Cassandra/Elvira, she is quite an admirable person and I gobbled up the library audiobook within 2 days.

Loved reading about Cassandra Peterson's life. Like many, I grew up watching Elvira in the 80s. I didn't know much about her personal life, so reading about Cassandra's childhood, teen years to adulthood was really eye opening, fun, and surprising. I really felt like Cassandra's voice came through as I read.

Interesting but a good chunk of the book is much more of a tell-all which I guess I didn't expect. I didn't know much about Ms. Peterson except she's Elvira, a vegan, and recently came out regarding her long-term relationship with a woman but, wow, she's been in show business forever and done a lot!
