There are a few things Peterson says that really rubbed me the wrong way. But overall it was a well-written narrative about a very adventurous life. I was a little too young to know much about Elvira apart from her being tied to spooky stuff somehow. I can definitely better appreciate her status as a cultural icon after learning more about the ups and downs of the character's history, and of Peterson's life.

I'm going to confess: I was going to give this 5 stars even if it was terrible because Elvira. And because I had been waiting for this for so long, I was worried it would disappoint. Luckily, the five starts were earned. It was a total joy to read.

I picked this up knowing almost nothing about Cassandra Peterson or Elvira. I loved it! She's a great storyteller and has had an amazing life and career. Highly recommend the audiobook!

This book made me happy, sad, angry, and tickled. I have always loved Elvira, and hearing her story was wonderful. Of course, Cassandra Peterson is much more than Elvira, Mistress of the Dark. If she could read this, I would tell her to own who she is, and whomever she loves is fine with me. She was concerned at first about losing fans, but I loved her before I understood sexuality and love her still. Honestly, I never saw her as a sex symbol for men only. She was a work of art for all of us as Elvira and even more as Cassandra.

This has easily become a new favorite. If this had been written by anyone else, there would have been points where I lifted a brow and thought "oh yeah right, that never happened"- but it wasn't. It was written by Cassandra Peterson, who I now want to have drinks with, because I suspect she has even more cool stories to share.
