Yes this is your basic page turning detective thriller, but the underlying “place” of the novel (the world had Hitler won the war) has you reading with your hands over your eyes like a horror movie. Should be required reading for high school history.

[...] Punto di forza di questo bel thriller è certamente il quadro storico alternativo immaginato da Robert Harris, che dà uno spaccato di quella che sarebbe potuta essere la società berlinese se Hitler avesse trionfato, oppressa dall’ideologia del Partito a tal punto che anche la religione perde importanza, la Bibbia sostituita dal Mein Kampf, e dominata dalla silenziosa ma sempre incombente minaccia del regime. [...] Inoltre il libro scorre che è una bellezza, complici la narrazione serrata e la suspense che contraddistingue le spy stories. Ben congeniati i colpi di scena, che ti spingono a rimanere aggrappato al libro come una cozza allo scoglio fino al momento di chiuderlo per l’ultima volta.
Pertanto, amanti dei thriller e non a raccolta: Fatherland farà sicuramente al caso vostro.
