A dystopian look into a corrupt state. Overall a very interesting book, which I enjoyed reading.
One thing I found really annoying was the description of the female characters. The older female characters always had negative descriptions, often about how they looked. While the one young female lead, who conveniently also was the love interest of the 42 year old main male lead, was the only female character with positive descriptions. I don’t necessarily think she was badly written, I just think a lot of the focus was on her attractiveness in comparison to other women - how she was the “perfect” woman compared to them. I don’t think I would have found it so annoying if she was a little older and a bit closer in age to the male lead, or if their relationship wasn’t a significant part of the story. I am not opposed to female characters having negative descriptions- I just think they should have more dimensions to them than only how they look or their age or how attractive they are to the male lead.

Een thriller zoals een thriller behoort te zijn. Nadat ik vorig jaar "Geest" las van dezelfde auteur, was ik toch bereid hem nog een kans te geven want dat boek ontgoochelde wat. Maar hier valt alles op zijn plooi. Alleen al het uitgangspunt - het verhaal speelt zich af in Berlijn in 1964 nadat Hitler WO II wél gewonnen heeft - is fantastisch goed gevonden. Het blijft spannend tot het eind met de nodige wendingen onderweg.
