Hm. Was soll ich sagen: Die Story ist schon packend, aber dieses Hörbuch hat einen anderen Vorleser und dessen Stimme mochte ich so gar nicht- gnaaaa! Ich hab sogar einen Augenblick überlegt, ob ich das Buch überhaupt kaufen soll - aber hey, Audible halbes Guthaben! Also hab ichs doch genommen, aber ganz ehrlich: Hätte ich eine andere Sprecheroption gehabt, dann wäre es eher meins gewesen!
Dabei kann man gar nicht sagen, dass der Sprecher einen schlechten Job macht, im Gegenteil - wie er beim Globus so einen ganz leichten österreichischen Singsang andeutet oder den sächsichen Akzent beim Jost oder das leichte Berlinern bei den Nebenfiguren - ganz hervorragend! Ich mag aber einfach seine Stimmer nicht, die kommt mir so hochnäsig rüber.

Die Story ist dann schon spannend, allerdings glaube ich fast, dass mir der "Zweite Schlaf" fast besser gefallen hat. Und in Sachen "Was wäre, wenn Hitler den Krieg gewonnen hätte" fand ich "NSA" von Eschbach definitiv besser.

I read this book after I discovered the alternative history genre, (where an author explores the outcome of history if certain events-like wars-had turned out differently), and had a mixed reaction to it. I think that it was fairly well-written, but at times I was very disappointed with it. The content can be pretty graphic in places and sometimes the descriptions get a little overwhelming. It's a thick book! Overall, it was an ok book though. I didn't like the ending very much, but I think that if you like books of the alternative history persuasion you should read it! It is probably the most popular book of this genre and it isn't horrible.

This "alternative history" book, set in 1964, sees a world in which the Germans have won the Second World War. The Germans are about to celebrate Hitler's birthday, and Kennedy Snr. (JFK's Dad) is looking for detente with the Third Reich.

Into this, the bodies of several retired Nazi bigwigs fall, and it's down to a disgruntled German police officer, and an American reporter, to work out what's going on, before the SS can wrap up all loose ends for good.

The book isn't exactly deep and meaningful, but it's an enjoyable read, and if you enjoy this sort of thing, you'll like this book.
