This is a book I will think about for a long time. While slow in the beginning, it did pick up and suddenly became a story not just about freedom and survival, but what it means to different people. What does it look like for one man compared to another? What is one willing to do for those things? How do all the decisions made in reaching for them affect a life?
‘Jim’ is a slave, but James is a man that is willing to do anything by for what is important to him. Freedom and survival look very different for him compared to the white men & women he sees. When he is faced with being sold, he runs. Now freedom and survival take on a different meaning.
Written as a reimagining of Huckleberry Finn, this book explores freedom, survival, fear, safety and hard truths of life during the 1860s. Told from Jim’s point of view the reader is opened to a world where survival, freedom and family are the basis of every decision made.

I enjoyed this one far more than The Adventures of Huck. I found it easier to follow but still maintaining the story and style to Twain’s. Well done but just wasn’t passionate about the book.

This was incredible. The ending had me crying so hard. I didn’t think I would like the amount of dialogue but it was actually amazing
