There are some obvious differences between Alchemised and Manacled but the plot is the same. Doing a reread of this book was definitely worth it!

Very great stand alone novel based on the dramione fan fiction ‘manacled’. Wouldn’t recommend it for everyone as the subject is very heavy and dark, in some instances I’d argue even more gruesome than the fan fiction. Would’ve appreciated an illustrated map and glossary to understand the world building though as it was a lot of information in part 1.

Manacled got me back into reading so many years ago. What an incredible journey SenLinYu has had!
Alchemised stayed true to Manacled and the writing and editing only elevated it. It's still the same gut-wrenching story with believable and flawed characters navigating a traumatic war. The "good" guys don't seem so good and (some of) the "bad" guys don't seem so bad.
Overall this story will hold a special place in my heart and feels so nostalgic, but also after reading so many more fantasy novels, it's a SOLID plot with good world building and politics and characters. It's a long haul, but so worth it❤️

A complete triumph for indie literature, a story that started on ao3 amassing widespread love and support that’s now blossomed into this as well as a movie deal. I think it’s shows real optimism towards the drudgery of celebrity biographies and the non diverse nature of storytelling in the 2010’s.
Having read Manacled, I knew a bit of what to expect going into this and had a healthy amount of scepticism towards how a fanfiction could be adapted but damn, this did it justice and was beyond incredibly from stop to start. Consumed this in a matter of days and despite the challenging nature of some of the material within, thoroughly enjoyed and would recommend it to others. Can’t wait to read more from this author!

I may try and revisit at a later date but I was struggling to get hooked and with it being a 36 hour book and being 5 hours in with no interest, it didn’t seem worth it to keep going. Made it to chapter 8 before stopping.
