This book was interesting. I liked the premises of the short stories, but the execution of each one varied. I was hoping for more interesting takes with Silvia  Moreno Garcia as one of the editors, but this did not happen.

Only a handful of the stories stuck out to me. I finished the book a week ago and cannot remember which ones.

Too many of the stories were “just okay”. I lost interest.

23 stories. Rated each one (I updated as I was reading) and averaged out to 3.11. Some duds, some ones I liked and am glad to have read. Normal anthology.

I love mushrooms and love Mexican Gothic so I was interested in this collection coedited by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. My absolute favorites were "Hyphae", "The Pilgrims of Parthen", "Where Dead Men Go To Dream", "Gamma", and "Cordyceps Zombii."
"Hyphae" and "The Pilgrims of Parthen" were creepy. I loved the setting of "Where Dead Men Go To Dream". "Gamma" was creepy and emotional. And "Cordyceps Zombii" was an amazing poem.
My 4-4.5 star rated stories were "Last Bloom on the Stage", "Corpse Mouth and Spore Nose", "Our Stories Will Live Forever", "Dust From A Dark Flower", and "The Shaft Through the Middle of It All."
The rest of the stories were either ok or not to my taste, but they were all pretty interesting. Overall I liked the different weird ways fungi were presented in this anthology.

This is a great collection of stories that run the gamut of horror, weird, fantasy and everything in between.  I enjoyed the bulk of these stories and loved the inventiveness. Definitely recommend!
