This guy's sexual frustration is booorrrring.

Talk about your conflicted and complex characters. I walked into the world of D.H. Lawrence fully aware that he was likely not going to be my cup of tea, but I was treated to a smooth flowing novel on the life of the Morel family. The story shifts from the calloused coal miner Walter Morel to the bigshot firstborn William and ultimately to he who certainly has the look of an autobiographical character, Paul. Throughout the narrative, the mother holds central position.

I was pleased with the developing tension maintained by Lawrence between the sexual desires of Paul enhanced by the fructifying instinct fueled by his artistic drives and the hold of the maternal ideal upon him. There seemed to be a lot of food for thought there. Paul's character is hard to grasp due to its wispy nature and his being easily given to puzzling fits of anger over trifles. His aesthetics seem refined or at least unique..the reader notices an obsession with flowers constantly reappearing...which goes hand-in-hand with his hair-trigger sensitivity. Frustrating at times? Surely. But it never becomes a definite deal-breaker. I confess candidly that I'm still in the process of digesting this one.

I enjoyed reading this for the first half wherr we learn all about the Morels and William, i thought the dynamics were interesting and DH Lawrence certainly was obviously an observant person,
