3.5/5 stars. I am almost positive I read this book before, but I couldn't really remember the storyline, so I read it again. It was a quick read that felt a little lighter than I am used to.

Suspenseful read. Adam Chase returns home after a 5 year absence. He left after being acquitted of a murder he did not commit. He returned to reclaim his life. But some people don’t want him back and people begin to die. Family secrets are exposed. Relationships are tested. Very good book.

As with his previous book, I was surprised by the ending but in retrospect it made sense. A modern "who done it" that moves quickly. I'll read his third book.

This ended up not nearly as captivating as the other two books I have read by John Hart. It fell into his usual rhythm, had some tightly wound plot points and characters. Which I appreciated, but at the same time, it wrapped up so quick & neat, when it was such a messy tale of what family can do to one another. The women who played such important roles in this book were also a little flat at times, and I am sure Hart meant that to make sense by the end, but it made me care a whole lot less about those characters. Furthermore, for a book with so many characters, I would have liked to have known them better, I suppose this is a trap of first person narration, but I still think we could have seen more through Adam's eyes. I didn't hate this book, and I would recommend it, but I would recommend "The Last Child" first, then "Iron House", then this.

Very captivating and gripping. I could not stop thinking about the characters and the story even after it was finished. First book I passed on in the new year! Highly recommend.

Gripping story, excellent read. Adam Chase left his small southern home town 5 years ago after he was aquitted of murder, even with his stepmother testifying that she saw him covered in blood coming from the scene. Now he is back, and more people are dying and everyone keeps looking at him. 072808

Found this by accident at the used bookstore. Definitely a gem of a find. One of the best books I've read in quite some time.
