Reading as part of book club, unfortunately this just felt a bit boring and lacklustre for me even with it being a ‘cosy crime’ fiction, I didn’t feel any investment into the characters or ‘who dunnit’ - sorry!

Eh. I don't know. The characters speak like they are 80 but act like they are 12. Especially between themselves. Some of their conversations were very reminiscent of teenage flirting e.g teasing. I didn't like the audio version as the narrators plummy accent for female characters went right through me. I'm not a fan of stereotypical plummy accents, it grates on me. I would've rather the narrator just speak the female parts in a normal voice, even with the accent as the tone never even gets close to being female, so it's pointless. I also don't know how to take the characters. The main characters is a bit of drip and the female one is unknown, we don't get to see much about her. And I didn't feel like they were truly solving the case together or finding clues together. In a book that relies on the partnership as one of it's strongest hooks so it kind of failed. You get they might fancy each other, but do they like each other? I don't know. Both characters feel very distanced from each other, which is not what you want. When you've got a detectives team, you usually see how and why they work. How they compliment each other strengths and make up for the others flaws e.g. one is good with people, one isn't, one is knows history, one has a deep understanding of people. But I can't see how Arbie and Val compliment each other and how they would work better as a team.

I don't know about this one. If a sequel comes out, I might read it, but who knows.

I could hardly tell you anything that happened in this book. I don’t know if that’s because nothing really happens, or because I was so bored I zoned out. Either way.

Really not for me, should have dnf'd but I wanted to know who the murderer was. The ending was bad, I don't think they got the right person, and there's no solid resolution!
