I loved the feel and style this was written in, and even the story had some great qualities. I just felt some things didn't quite fit into place for some reason, and I can't even put my finger on it.

The FMC is called to a small, English town to collect things after her uncle passed. There are some mysterious things going on there and she finds herself entwined in more than she bargained for. Then bring in The Scotland Yard to add even more mystery.

All in all I quite enjoyed it.

A solid 4 stars.

I've really enjoyed both books I've read now by Simone St. James. I love her gothic settings with ghosts and a good mystery.

Not as good as her newer books. The story wasn’t exciting. I couldn’t finish it because I couldn’t stand how toxic the love interest is.

An Inquiry Into Love and Dead is the third book I have read by Simone St. James. I did not enjoy it as much as Silence for the Dead but it was still enjoyable. The love story between Jillian and Drew was the best part of the story. The mystery and ghost story were not as strong in this book as previous ones. The narrator Rosalyn Landor did a good job. I recommend give An Inquiry Into Love and Death a try.

I was underwhelmed by this book. I have been reading all of Simone St. James' books, and this is probably my least favorite, along with The Other Side of Midnight. It was just so formulaic, and it didn't have the passion that her other books have. The characters were flat, the twists were predictable, and the storyline just left me bored. Had I not been reading it with a friend, I would have DNFed it. However, it really showed me just how far James has come with her writing since these older books, and I loved being able to see that.
