Wow I was really taken by this. A beautiful writing style and such well written sad descriptions of what it’s like to not know, fear and be confused by one’s self to the point of completely harming yourself and others.

Eine tragische Geschichte über (internalisierte) Homophobie, Klassen und Geschlechterrollen. Leider konnte ich mit den Charakteren nicht so mitfühlen, wie es der Dramatik der Handlung gerecht geworden wäre. Aus diesem Grund habe ich mich zwischendurch etwas gelangweilt gefühlt. Die letzten 50 Seiten waren jedoch für mich mit deutlichem Abstand stärker und tiefgehender, sodass ich trotz dessen mit Sicherheit noch eine Weile über dieses Buch nachdenken werde.

I wanted to hold back from finishing this book because I was in love with reading it. Every bit of prose. The depth of the characters. Baldwin’s ability to lead with a terrible main character that I still found I had empathy for. The lush dialogue that felt directly pulled from an actual moment in time. I want to study this book again and again. It has fired me up to keep on writing and get this novel of mine finished.
