The Kite Runner is about two best friends, a wealthy boy and the son of his father's servant. This beautiful novel set in Afghanistan, a country that is being destroyed by Russian forces and its revolution, tells a story of love, family, friendship, sacrifice, guilt and injustice.

Wow I already knew I would like this since every review I read was positive. But it was more than good, it was unforgettable, heartbreaking, just so special.

I usually cry very easily when I'm invested in a book. But I think I never cried as much and felt so crushed as I did while reading this story. The characters felt so real, the events so tragic that I couldn't help but put the book down and sob many times.
I would advise you to check the trigger warnings before reading this book because it can be quite disturbing for some people.

The writing style is beautiful and powerful. The chapters are short and fast-paced. And the message it contains is extraordinary and wise. It also taught me a lot about Afghanistan's culture and history, which is why I love historical fiction.

I will never forget this book. I love it. My heart still aches for Hassan.

"For you, a thousand times over."

"There is only one sin. and that is theft... when you tell a lie, you steal someones right to the truth."

"There are a lot of children in Afghanistan, but little childhood."

That was brutal. A tough read, start to finish. Ultimately redemptive and ending on a hopeful note, but the journey is definitely rough.

I did feel like there were too many contrived coincidences in the story that kept it from being a truly believable story. Some of them I understand their purpose, like the split lip towards the end. Some of them just felt really contrived just for the purpose of creating connections or tying the plot lines together.

I think the best part is the character development of the main character. Without altering his essential self, his character goes through dramatic change and growth. Initially, you may feel even disgust for him, but by the end, you are rooting for him.
