I liked it...but at the same time I didn't? There were so many facts and tidbits about ancient Egypt and Egyptology that I honestly didn't really care for. Also a lot of talk about quantum physics and alternate realities that just didn't get me excited. The timeline was a little bit confusing. Did she get in a plane crash before or after Egypt? However, I really liked how Dawn's work as a death doula was portrayed and I appreciated how they normalized death and dying. The author has a very compassionate approach toward this sensitive matter.

I get that it's fiction but I can't stand when characters pine for a lost love a love from long ago and regrets years of their life because they weren't with them. Anyway, that's my own preference.

This is not my favorite book by this author. The silver lining I found was that I learned a lot about the process of death. Otherwise the timeline was very confusing in the book and the ending was horrible.

Really enjoyed how Picoult addresses death, love, and the idea of alternate timelines in this one, but I can't deny that the book becomes bogged down at times by how far into Egyptology the author gets. I don't think I retained a word of it, to be honest. Still a 3-star read because I am an entirely biased Jodi Picoult stan.
