I do not know what to make out of this.

I felt touched, because of certain parts overlapping with my own reality.
But I was also confused.

Generally, I feel like this book is a warrior. It goes against many unspoken issues. It faces the issues of one’s biggest fears holding us back. It is a vibe.

nope. wtf. this has been recommended so much as a wlw book, but it is the DARKEST thing I have ever read. cannibalism? LSD cult? repeated sexual assault of children and FMCs? lots of violent blood play between the FMCs? I was not prepared. I will not be reading the next book. I just had to finish it to know that they were going to be okay. but holy fkn shit.

Was excited for a good lesbian story, but the
cheating trope
was not it for me.

i don't know why but i thought this book would have similar vibes to [b:Tryst Six Venom|54661258|Tryst Six Venom|Penelope Douglas|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1620195849l/54661258._SY75_.jpg|85282745]....... i was very wrong. there's so much that went on this book lmao, it was wild.

we start off with our main character, Aura, having a flashback to when she was in a cult (???? it was so random). we quickly learn that she's escaped the cult, and she's now living with her boyfriend and best friend. although she's escaped, she's still haunted by past trauma and experiences. Ruby, the love interest, is a stripper. on a date gone wrong, Ruby and Aura meet at the club. things then go to shit, pretty much.

firstly, Ruby and Aura were cute, i guess? i love it so much when characters are consumed with each other, to the point of obsession. they're constantly on each other's minds, the dark passion, mutual longing and desire, and just straight up always being horny for one another.... I LOVE IT.

"I'm always going to want you. Always dream of you. You've ruined me for anyone else. Do you know that? I can't fucking think straight when you're around, can't imagine being with anyone else that isn't you."

saying that, it did feel slightly rushed?? Ruby and Aura lock eyes at a club, and it is INSTANT attraction and desire. i think i prefer more of a gradual build up, but that is definitely a personal preference thing.

i don't want to get into too much detail, but there are some hyperspecific *points of interest* that i NEED to talk about lmao

- if i hear the term "energy" or "vibe" one more time, i'm gonna bash my head against the wall

i'm alll for cute, unique and original terms of endearment, but WHAT is "vibe girl"

This book was like Midsommar but imagine if that movie wasn't scary and was really poorly made. That's basically what you're getting with Vibe.

Also, I wish authors would stop labeling their romances as "dark" when they are barely kinky and are basically just thrillers. Nothing about Nova and Aura's (yes, those are really their names) relationship was dark in any way, so I felt misled.

I've read a few dark romances but this definitely took me off guard and out of my comfort zone. I do recommend reading trigger warnings before reading this book. I honestly liked it more than I thought I would and it had a interesting and complex plot that you wouldn't expect in this kind of dark romance. I would recommend this for anyone who wants to read an interesting sapphic romance while challenging their reading comfort zone.

WOW — this was so fricken good. DARK, just know that the TWs don't lie... there is so much on page stuff. Just take care of yourself and if these are things you feel comfortable with, just know you are in for a WILD RIDE 👀❤️‍🔥🦋

There is so much to this book that I am unsure how to even share things without it stepping into spoiler territory. But Ruby and Aura are SOMETHING. I loved their 𝒗𝒊𝒃𝒆 and what they both bring to this story.

I will say yes, it is a 𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗯𝘂𝗿𝗻 and things really kick off super early on. But I felt for their relationship and journey it honestly made sense to me. The cult we get immersed into really takes us on a WILD ass ride. My goodness. It was messy, tragic, dark, sad, and it made me so fcking angry for these characters. Liza really threw in so many twists and turns and I was literally sweating through the last 20%. I was afraid to turn the page to see what mother fcker was jumping out to shock me 👀

I am throughly obsessed with Liza James writing and her way of sucking you into a dark and twisty space. This was a fabulous sapphic romance that really bloomed from such tragic and dark roots. As someone who has some religious traumas they are working through — this was cathartic at times (even though this story was so out of pocket and not close to my own journey lol), but it also was just a great emotional rollercoaster of a story 🙃

This will not be my last Liza James book and I can't wait to dive more into her backlist! 🖤🫶🏻
