A poignant and beautifully written novel in verse that explores topics such as depression, body image, self harm, colourism and racism with compassion, empathy and sensitivity. Told through the lens of a young black girl during a time of turmoil for her family, Rain Rising is an authentic and touching read that is equal parts painful and hopeful. This was such a beautifully told story and I can’t wait to read more from Courtne Comrie in the future.
Graphic: Racism, Fatphobia, and Self harm
