Such a wonderful book. It was hard to get into the story. 3 plots, different from each other. However, when everything started to connect a little by little I was hooked.
Slow read but totally worth it

Decent read
I enjoyed this book in the beginning. The style of writing was lyrical and beautiful. I was swept up in the book and was curious on how it would all come together. Unfortunately , the ending fell flat for me. It was abrupt with very little resolution.

Little girl looks for old man that wrote a book. Old man is a good character, the rest is junk
I had chosen to read this book because I had seen it on quite a few lists. I love books about books. I like how the story was told and came together in the end. However, I was disappointed in the story as a whole. I just felt it was missing something.
I guess maybe that I expected a story of love to unfold, but ended up hearing the story of a young girl and an old man. I did love Leo and wanted more of his story, but nothing else really appealed to me.
Lastly, I consider myself a pretty educated reader, but I just didn't get the ending. What happened and why the tapping? Was it the [b:double tap|2423|Double Tap (Paul Madriani Novels)|Steve Martini|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1161044792s/2423.jpg|6414] = Yes?? If you have some insight, please share ;)
Overall, I was very disappointed.

Overall, I was very disappointed.
From the first page there was something about Leo that grabbed me and I felt that this was going to be a good book. And overall I did really enjoy it. There were times during the first half of the book where I couldn’t really work out how the three different story lines were related, but I’m glad I stuck with it as they do start to come together with just enough mystery to keep you wondering how the book will end.
I was really hoping to be able to give this 3 stars, but I can't do it. I had to make myself read and finish this story and in return I felt confused along the way, frustrated at all the characters' dishonesty with those they interacted with, and dissatisfied at the end. One thing I did like was reading parts of the book within a book. Some of those passages were beautiful.
The first 7 pages made me ball my heart out.
The story continued.
It became mildly confusing. I suddenly realized I could not read it like a generic fiction novel. I had to don my Auster eyes. I almost thought, I don't like this writing style. Not for either narrator, really.
and yet.
I kept reading.
The cadence grew familiar. The styles became the sound of the narrators; not something to struggle through but something to embrace.
As the mysteries unraveled and the story drew to a close, I cried, cried, and cried some more.

This was a little confusing because the author is telling three stories at the same time that are not always happening in sequence with each other.
Overall, it was not what I thought it was going to be (it was actually much better). A very sweet story about a young girl trying to find out where she comes from and an old man trying to figure out what his purpose is in life after the love of his life marries another.
