This was an ok book. As an avid reader of murder mystery, especially YA/NA which centers the story on a main character detective, this book was a paint-by-the-numbers in plot, writing, and characters. The Agency support characters didn't have much substance other than the need to consistently tout their gender and sexual orientation labels rather than creating fully fleshed-out characters that happened to be gender expansive and queer. It felt more forced and disingenuous and rather the need to check off boxes in the guise of having LGBTQ+ represented characters. The plot was predictable and the story overall was slow, and boring. In the end, it was a meh.

This was fine. There were a few times when I felt like there were things missing but they did come together in the end. The things that really bothered me was how long it took for her to listen to the stupid podcast… in fact the book could have been half the length if she would have done things logically. And as an aspiring detective who thought she could solve crimes she was sure setting herself up for failure. Maybe that’s just me… but like I said it was fine.

one of the best YA mysteries/thrillers i've read in awhile. perfect for fans of A Good Girl's Guide To Murder who wanted more queer rep.

one of the best YA mysteries/thrillers i've read in awhile. perfect for fans of A Good Girl's Guide To Murder who wanted more queer rep.

i do like this book! but i found it really was just a carbon copy of a good girls guide to murder right down to the blood detail on each chapter, and i love the idea of a queer version i just think for a first novel it shouldn’t be so obvious with the parallels, and the pod cast part as well, overall a nice read but more original ideas are needed, even the names i was like?? oh is this a satire??

if you have read a good girls guide to murder don’t read this because it’s just like a rip off of that and it’s way more corny with wayyyy more gen z slang and absolutely no character descriptions and forced rep
i honestly think holy jackson could sue

the real horror is the things you do for your first queer high school relationship. like starting a podcast. the second horror is cops.

I simply did not like this book in the slightest. The book could’ve had a lot of potential with being sapphic but it just ultimately felt like a watered down version of a good girls guide to murder. The similarities between the two books were too blatant to ignore, making this story feel more like a repeat than a unique mystery. If you’ve already read AGGGTM this novel will likely leave you disappointed by its lack of originality. Also the overuse of “ex-girlfriend and ex-best friend” every single page was sooooo excessive.

This book just go to show how much I love murder mystery/ who-dun-it. This is definitely EXTREMELY similar to A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, so I couldn’t give it a full 4 stars because of that. However, I didn’t guess the twist, I loved reading it, and it was a GREAT novel for her first! Would love to see other things she does in the future!!!
