I enjoyed this book! Having an MC who had already gone through a Good-Girl’s-Guide-to-Murder style mystery before the book started (and having the podcast about said mystery belong to
a girl who also goes missing
) was so refreshing! *chef’s kiss* Also, everything just felt so genuine, from the characters to the humor. I was definitely on the edge of my seat the whole time. Highly recommend!

Iris started her own detective agency after her sitter went missing and the police declared her a runaway girl.
Heather - Iris‘s ex-girlfriend - started a podcast trying to solve the mystery of Stella’s disappearance … until she goes missing herself.
Iris and her friends try everything to solve both cases while dealing with being seniors in high school. They dig up many leads, get threatened by the police and some mysterious person and endanger themselves.
I was a little worried the story would be too close to a Good Girls Guide to Murder, but it wasn’t at all. I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed reading the story. It was fun following the investigation and kind of discovering the twists and turns alongside the characters.
Once in a while I was a little annoyed by Iris‘s doubts and whining but all of there was in good reason.

I had a lot of fun with this book, and I can't believe it was written by a college student. I was a mess in college! I could have never produced something so great! Can't wait to see what else Ms. Wolsok writes. I was tickled that she set the book in a parish in Louisiana that R knows so well, and there was even a mention of his hometown. I do think she laid a little hard into the New Orleans of it all (with the food especially), and I also got the sense that in trying to make the book more inclusive of marginalized groups, it may have gone a touch too far. Like the six-fingered hands. They're never discussed or anything, which is a way of normalizing a body difference, but they're just kind of shoved in the narrative. Also, a lot of mentions of heart-shaped faces. But I think the author has a great career ahead of her! Def didn't predict the ending.

Miiiiddddddddd! This book could’ve been SO GOOD!!! But it fell flat, and didn’t need to be as long as it was.

My biggest complaint is that Iris was CONSTANTLY keeping things to herself, and pitying herself. Also! The amount of trauma that she experienced, investigating her sister’s disappearance and then her ex-girlfriend started to become increasingly unrealistic. And the guilty party was so ridiculous!
The teacher is the half brother of one of the students Nathan. He dated Iris’s sister then killed her by pushing her over the banister, just because she wanted to skip town and breakup. HE WAS DATING MINORS and thought he was a heir to Nathan’s wealthy family, and then when Iris’s ex found out that he was dating ANOTHER student, he killed her, and blackmailed a teacher to get rid of the body. It was all so ridiculous, and didn’t seem like enough of a real motive to murder.
I was disappointed at how slow the book moved, and the twists and turns weren’t compelling enough. The most enjoyable part of reading this book, was that there was a variety of characters, LGBTQIA representation, and the audio book leaned into the podcasts that Iris’s ex was creating. But, in terms of I  recommending this book? I wouldn’t.
