For a book that everyone raved about, man, was it a disappointing read. I listened to it as an audiobook, and I think it made it better because of the podcast-type format. If I had read it on paper, I probably would’ve rated it even lower. I think the whole “birthday twin” idea that the book revolves around is incredibly boring. I also think that almost all the characters are unlikable. The cherry on top is that I found the book to be very slow, and when it finally did pick up, it was still only mildly interesting to me. I also don’t think it had a good ending considering I can’t even remember what the ending was. This book was so bad that I undownloaded it off of Audible when I was through because I was confident in the fact that I would never give it a second read. I also found the age difference between the main character and her husband to be gross, problematic and weirdly normalized by the author.

I honestly didn't understand the hype that this book received. It was not worth the months that I waited for this book to come available through my local library. It was one of the worst books that I read in a long time. I enjoyed the other book I listened to by Lisa Jewell, but I thought that this one was terrible. It drug on and on and on. The beginning was kind of interesting, but then it got worse the further the book continued. I kept listening only so that I could add it to my "marked as completed" list. I'll be gracious and give this book 2 stars, when really, it only deserves 1.5 stars.

Honestly really liked this at first but it got way too long and repetitive. Also, why did we need to redeem the terrible men in this book? Or randomly include the pandemic? Lotta choices made here…

Truly excellent. Masterfully written down to every detail. My only qualm was the end felt rushed.

This was a very disturbing story that had you questioning “Why didn’t she just call the police?!” the whole time. I think Alix’s character and motivation for recording the podcast wasn’t explored more than one scene. I just didn’t buy into the reason they gave.

i liked the first two acts but when the theme went from being about how people who experience trauma sometimes gain the capability to harm others into how this girl is cray cray 😝 and forced an old man to date her i was kind of over it. the writing was really good but i just didn’t really fw the ending or how walter’s character was handled.
