3.5 stars of sweet Irish bliss or man candy...

Straight Up Irish has the slang and accents to turn me to putty. Seriously, this bird was ready as soon as Connor opened his mouth. Even if he calls me Not Erin, yeah I would.

The Irish play boy and the American assistant sounds like a bad death match but makes for an entertaining arrangement. It's sweet with some very naughty fun and plenty of Whiskey to wet your whistle.

Fallon has been getting Connor out of random women's beds and to phone conferences on time for the last 6 months and she tried her best to get him home before his father died but he didn't quite make it.
Conner and his 3 brothers find out at the reading of his fathers will that he put a clause in it saying all 3 boys have to be married for at least 6 months within a year of his death to get their inheritance or it will be sold to the board members. Problem none of the guys are in a relationship....
Connor and Fallon finally meet in person and make a deal where her student loans will be paid off and her Nana taken care of for the next 10 years if she while stay married to him for 6 months so he can get his inheritance. This is high angst as Fallon isn't a natural born liar and as the 2 develop feelings and privately freak out instead of speaking to each other about it. It was a fun little romp.

I loved it! Magans writing is hilarious and I really enjoyed the dynamics of the couple. She did a great job making this trope her own and building a world that I couldn’t get enough of! All in all a perfect summer read

I enjoyed reading this, especially since it was a quick and easy read. Those are always nice. That being said, while I enjoyed most of the book, the ending... I'm not sure how I feel about the ending. Don’t get me wrong, there was a HEA, which was expected. Yet the ending was quite abrupt, though it was clean. Too clean, in my opinion, since everything was wrapped up far too neatly. It just didn’t give me the satisfaction that I thought the book deserved, even though I was happy for the MCs.

I have read this book a few times now and each time I just get so swept up in the whirlwind of everything. Connor Murphy, playboy, wild child and yet we see him as the best book boyfriend a girl could want. Fallon Smith, she just wants to get her life on track, provide for her Nana and herself, this was an opportunity she couldn’t turn down, a job in Ireland! She never expected love would be in cards too!

This story is just sweet and sexy and the perfect read to just get lost in.

I started this as an audiobook and the woman did Connor's voice with more of an Irish accent than the male voice actor (even if it was a little too stereotypical upspeak), which had me wondering--is the male voice actor really Irish? (Couldn't find out online.) And the female voice actor's tone was such that at an end of one of her sentences I could almost hear her say "Live from , this is NBC/CBS/ABC News." Yeah, it was that bad.

ANYHOO...

The Ladies' Man to Intensely Devoted Guy trope is always a hard sell for me.
Spoileralso, women who can orgasm at the drop of a hat, which was the worst I've ever seen here, but that's just me
Fallon's obstacles were the usual contrivances, but one person from her past suddenly turning up like they cared, when all their interactions with Fallon proved otherwise, was not believable at all. Since the voice actors ruined it for me and I can't find the e-books on Overdrive or Hoopla to borrow, think I'll pass on the remaining two.

Fallon Smith is an American girl who is currently working in Ireland for Jack Murphy and his family’s distillery. Although it seems a majority of her job is taken up by Connor Murphy, Jack’s brother, and the resident playboy.

Connor is in Ireland for his father’s funeral and reading of his will. Connor and his brothers are in for the shock of their life when the will is read and they learn exactly how they can become owners of the company. Connor has only spoken with Fallon via phone but when he meets her in person, he becomes smitten with the American girl who could help him save his company.

I really enjoyed this story. Even though Connor comes off as a playboy, he has some redeeming qualities and has a heart of gold, especially when it comes to Fallon. Fallon has had a hard life, with parents who are less than stellar and a Nana whom she is taking care of back in the US. Fallon is not used to the lavish attention and it seems to always be a bone of contention between her and Connor. Their banter was fun, sexy and sweet and I loved how their relationship grew from friends to lovers. The ONLY thing I didn’t like was that I felt it ended a little too abruptly for my liking. However, I did enjoy Straight Up Irish and I look forward to more hot Irish men and whiskey ;)

I enjoyed every part of this story so much that I immediately purchased the rest of the series in ebook format! I initially won a set through a giveaway and hadn't gotten to reading them. However, I found this book available on Hoopla as an audiobook and snatched it up! I am not disappointed at all. This book introduces us to the Murphy family where the father has died and left strict instructions for his three sons within his will. Part of those instructions is to find love. The setting is in Ireland and I am pretty much already in love when I find out a book is set in Ireland, well this one also provided a narrator that just melted my panties with his Irish accent and that is another factor in my enjoyment of a story like this. It is a marriage of convenience situation/trope being played out and this was the final nail in the coffin that I would absolutely LOVE this journey. Fallon and Connor have their own quirks that drew me into caring about the journey and the secondary characters are drawing me into reading the follow on books of the series. I say just take the leap and you may be just as pleasantly surprised as I was with how much you will enjoy this story.

This specific video review will be included in the October 2019 wrap-up.

Whew!! Listened to this great romance & that Irish accent was on fire!! Straight Up Irish by Magan Vernon is book 1 of the Murphy Brothers series. Connor is the party boy who needs Fallon for more than a wake up call. Fallon was not a character I was a fan of. She comes off as naive and unwilling to explore an amazing city. For an educated woman she doesn’t see the opportunities and is only focused on her issues. But I loved this story and these voices. Can’t wait to read the rest of this series.
