It was a tossup if I was going to rate this book a three or four. But I ended up leaning towards a four. I think if I was in a different frame of mind, I would’ve liked this book a lot more. However, I’m in the mood for a book that surprises me. This one unfortunately didn’t. I still really liked it though. I think this could be a comfort book. It’s lighthearted. I think the drama is minimal. But just missing that oomf that would make me love it.

One thing that I’m noticing in the books that I’ve recently read is that authors are including traits in characters that are impacting their actions and then not explicitly discussing those traits but only implying it, specifically mental disorders. For example, in a previous book, I read the MMC was an alcoholic. But it was never explicitly said or talked about. Same in this book, the MMC had depression, but it was only ever implied, and it wasn’t explicitly acknowledged. It was like once the FMC came into their lives all of their personal problems went away and they didn’t have to do any internal work.

sweet, light read!

This was a sweet story. I don’t typically enjoy fake dating OR celebrity romance tropes but this was a decent read!

I really loved the communication between the two MCs. In particular, Evie was a really strong communicator about her feelings/boundaries and Boone was very conscious regarding consent in the beginning. I thought there were a lot of cute moments such as Boone finding Evie’s fanfic. Boone was very protective of Evie as well.

Tropes:
Fake dating
Celebrity
Forced proximity
Comfort/care

Steam:
Slow burn
Low steam

Lucky Star
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Genre: Romance
Format: Kindle eBook
Date Published: 5/17/22
Author: Susannah Nix
Publisher: Haver Street Press
Pages: 384
Goodreads Rating: 4.56

Thank you to NetGalley and Haver Street Press for providing a digital copy of the book for me to read in exchange for my honest opinion.

Synopsis: Boone Sheridan is a TV heartthrob with a public relations problem. He needs to clean up his image and create a distraction ASAP. Eve Tracey is as ordinary as they come—a pre-school teacher and part-time barista working two jobs to make ends meet. She also happens to be a recovering Boone Sheridan superfan. So when the object of her former obsession walks into her coffee shop and makes her an unbelievable offer, how can she refuse?

My Thoughts: The chapters are short, which was great for me as I like to read a few chapters when I am eating lunch. The story is narrated by Eve mostly with some chapters being narrated by Boone, in their respective POVs. This book was everything I knew it could be. I had read another book in this series earlier in the year and loved it. This was even better and even worked some of the prior characters into this one. I have now bookmarked all of the books in this series. The author has developed this characters creatively, inventively, and some depth. The writing was clear, engaging, and creative. The ending was amazing and just fit this book so well. Susannah Nix has become an auto buy author for me.

A little late with this review. I got the arc from netgalley last year but only managed to read the first chapter or two before I got side tracked by something else. Fast forward to a few days ago I binged the whole book from start to finish in 1 day. Avoiding everything I was supposed to be doing that day like studying for my finals coming up.

I could not put it down. if you like:

then give this book a shot.

Lucky Star is the fourth book in the Starstruck series, which is a set of companion novels about heartthrobs who capture the hearts of a relatable person. This book is a fake dating, forced proximity, slow-burn that I absolutely adored.

I am a huge fan of Susannah Nix's romances, they have relatable characters, with tons of chemistry and lots of steam. There is so much to love about this book, starting with the banter between the two main characters, Eve and Boone. I loved having the characters perspectives, I think that it really added to the story. Although they were relative strangers, you could see the chemistry between these two from their first conversation.

The fake dating trope was bang on in this book. It built up and seemed so natural. I absolutely loved their dates. Boone was such a kind soul that gave so much to Eve, but not in an over-eager way. It seemed real and natural. Also, I am so glad there is no "miscommunication" trope added as a conflict, as so many romances have. This had a natural conflict in two different ways, which I thought felt like a good fit in the story.

The author again captures mental health issues, such as anxiety, and the aftermath of a toxic relationship with a caring and compassionate lens. I loved how Boone and Eve both were so respectful of each others struggles and talked through it so many different times.

I loved this book, and it would be a perfect summer beach read! Thank you to Susannah Nix for a copy of this book! All opinions are 100% mine.

Cute, fluffy escapist romcom book that quite literally got me through appendicitis.
