A very pleasant read! The action parts of the book are intense and engaging. The philosophical parts of the book are also a good read and an interesting look into ideologies, religions and philosophical thinking. The world-building is also pretty great. Would recommend.

What a deception this book has been, for real.
Yet, everything started great to me: we follow Artyom, a young man living in Moscou’s metro, after a cataclysmic event (a nuclear war) wiped the planet. He gets on a wild adventure on the lines, avoiding the Dark Ones, sorts of human mutants … And the book just spins out of control. In between religious and communist delirium, never-ending descriptions or dialogues, not-that-great action scenes … And just in general a long, very long, too long book.
No, really, I just could not get into it, even if I can see the appeal. The last chapter gave me a spark of hope, and the last lines killed it.

A thoroughly explored and well rounded concept that's both frightening and dismal. The world of Metro is by far the most realised world I've come across in writing but that said, the narrative is quite repetitive and meaders most of the time until it reaches the next major turn.

Nevertheless, Metro 2033 is an incredibly interesting novel that asks some truly profound questions about society at large. Ones that linger in the mind long after you've put it down.
