This book is so good! Poor Mia, although the circumstances of her assault (if we could call it that) were comical, it was very real. I love the build up, the relationship and character growth and the way the story presented itself. What happened to Jude and Tex was awful and Mia didn't deserve what was coming to her, Tex knew this and I felt for him. There was a lot of sexy scenes in the end and it became repetitive after while (even though was hot!). Also, I didn't like the ending very much, it was rushed.
The narration was amazing! Love both narrators, the male one didn't have the best female voice though.

Tax/Sil has a twin sister, Jude. They all went to the same high school with Mia.
Sil worked on a project with Mia and he started to fall for her. He wrote her a letter and gave it to her, but she lost the letter. Her boyfriend Tripp and his friends found the letter and they faked a reply letter to lure Sil to meet them.
Sil had to bring Jude along with him that day because they were trying to get away from their father. Tripp and his friends confronted Sil about Mia and they beat up Sil. Jude got involved and she was gang raped. She's now infertile because of it.
In the present day, Tax and Jude had been going after every person involved in covering up what Tripp and his friends did. Including Mia and her father. Tripp had already killed her father prior to meeting Mia. Her father was the sheriff and he took cover-up money from Tripp's parents.
Tax was going to kill Mia but they had sex instead. Tax started to fall for her and he found out that Mia wasn't involved. Btw after the assault, Jude developed this unhealthy dependency on Tax. So Jude couldn't accept the fact that Mia's innocent. Jude told Mia that Tax killed Mia's father. Mia got mad at Sil. Jude came in and shot her. Tax then saved her. She survived but she lost their baby.
Tax killed Jude. He went on the run for 1 year and laid low. He tried the disappearing act but that got resolved quickly in the epilogue, they reunited.
There's nothing special really going on. They fucked 80% of the time. The characters were annoying. But the writing was very engaging!
Side note: the audiobook sucks. Sil's narrator's tone is... too immature and mocking-like.

Just can't get into it. Tried audio, can't stand the make narrator. Tried ebook, but maybe it's not for me. I loved the premise but the execution isn't there. For me, anyway.

I kind of wish I hadn't read this book at the same time I think it'll be memorable because of how fucked up it is. I had to keep reading to know what Tax would do to Mia in the end.
14 years ago Mia and Sil were lab partners. Mia was the popular hot girl, Sil was a small goth kid with a twin sister Judith and an abusive drunk dad. He writes Mia a note saying he likes her and she should be with him instead of her current bf Tripp. He gives the letter to Mia, not telling her what it is, and she misplaces it and she has bigger worries when the next day her dad, and the town cop, pulls her out of school to tell Mia her mom died of cancer. When she comes back to school a week later Sil is gone.
Turns out Sil received a letter he thinks is from Mia telling him to meet at night. Before he can go meet her their dad tries to beat him and Jude. Sil fights back and knocks him. Sil and Jude go to the meeting spot where Tripp and his cronies are there. They beat Sil, whip him with belts, and then rape Judith while he watches including shoving bottles in. They're taken to the hospital where Judith undergoes surgery and is told she'll never be able to have kids. While they were sedated Tripp's wealthy dad paid everyone off, including the sheriff (Mia's dad). When Sil tries to tell the sheriff what happened he's shut down and SIL is threatened with charges for beating his dad. So Sil shuts up and he and Jude plan their vengeance.
Sil grows up, becomes muscular and handsome. He seduces Tripp's mother and gets her to will everything to him which he uses to destroy the town and he kills Tripp. He also poisons Mia's dad. His last act of vengeance is against Mia. He plans to kill her but ends up fucking her instead.
Mia has become the head of a growing sex toy company. Her friend encourages her to hire this male escort service which will act like a robber who comes in and fake rapes her. But Tax shows up and she thinks its the service she hired. Tax films it and uses it as blackmail. He buys her company and forces her to do whatever he wants or he'll release the video and destroy her career. Mia feels guilty that she's attracted to Tax who treats her like shit and Tax refuses to tell Mia what "debt" she owes him. Tax becomes increasingly attracted to Mia though and rather than kill her he makes a new plan to impregnate her, since any baby of his will be precious to Jude who has become a psychopath.
But then one night Mia tells her side of the story, about her mom dying and not knowing about Sil's letter, Sil realizes he was about to kill Mia for no reason. He thinks he doesn't deserve her and tries to leave her but Mia won't let him. He eventually reveals part of the truth, telling all the shit he did except about how he killed her father. Jude instead tells Mia, trying to sabotage them.
Then Mia finds out she's pregnant but before she can tell Sil, Jude comes in and shoots her in the gut. Mia nearly dies, looses the baby and may not be able to conceive in the future. Sil tracks down Jude and puts her down, making it look like a suicide. Then he disappears.
Mia tries to move on with her life but misses Sil and begs him to come back, which he does.

I'm sure this story is decent, but the choice for the narrators tanked this story for me. The FMC came across really old and grated in my ears. Felt like I was listening to my mom tell the story which made it so much worse. The MMC was too dramatic and unbelievable. He also spoke WAY too slow.
Fought to listen even at 2.8x speed.

I really like the fact that this book does not shy away from logical, hard and tragic consequences. Because I read many other dark romances that tries to wrap everything up neatly in a bright shiny bow, instead of with one that is crumpled and splattered with blood.
