I LOVED this book! It quickly become my #1 favorite book. The writing style was so so beautiful. I could feel all of the pain, happiness, and anger at any given scene. I highly recommend this book.

(4.5) marissa meyer how could you do this to me

A great deal of this book was fun and well put together, I smiled a lot at the little references and characters I recognized. It sadly wasn't entirely perfect.
The beginning of the story until about 2/3rds in could have easily been placed in every generic arranged marriage drama story. The plot didn't use the amazing world of wonderland until the very end. That was a bit of a shame in my eyes, as wonderland could have been the perfect place to give this story a weird twist from the beginning.
It did start using wonderland and its wonders in the last part. That was amazing to read, and I loved the twists and turns, but unfortunately, Marissa rushed through it. Leaving me a bit disappointed and confused.
SpoilerI didn't even understood that Jest died the first time I read that passage because it was so extremely rushed through.

But Dorine, you gave this book 4 stars, yet you have so many complaints?? I couldn't give it any less than 4 stars because it was really fun to read. This was the first book I started to annotate, which made the reading pleasure even greater. It was really nice how I could revisit my beloved wonderland through the eyes of another writer. She did use a lot of references correct, even though I, a giant Alice in Wonderland nerd, still found some things that didn't work with how Alice in Wonderland would pick up.

This book is just a fun, romantic read. I am not going to read Marissa's other books, as I don't think her writing style is it for me, but who knows maybe I will someday.

Look, I knew where this was going. It's the Queen of Heart's backstory of course I did. But I didn't expect it to be as HEARTbreaking (see what I did there) (I know it was too easy but let me live
Spoiler unlike Jest
) as it was.

When I began it, I had my doubts. Cath seemed too kind, this sweet pastry-obsessed baker, to have the makings of an Alice in Wonderland villain. There was no way. As always, Meyer defied by every expectation. It's a fantastic backstory with all the wonder of the world through the looking glass and cameos of our favorite characters.

It's a girl struggling against a world that doesn't let a lady succeed on her own terms. It's a girl struggling against the wishes of her parents. It's a very familiar story, and it's somehow the story of the Queen of Hearts.

Also, it's serious delectable.
