Another Tana French book down, another delight. I think it had been too long since I had read one because I couldn't for the life of me remember or figure out how this detective fit into the character pool. There were copious references to his involvement with previous cases and characters, but they weren't detailed enough for me to remember exactly what went down or who he was before.

But that was a minor issue, and this turned out to be a great book, as they all have. This isn't my favorite. It was a slow start--although I think I say that every time. Tana French is definitely a slow burn that's usually worth the payoff. I think I only have one left now, unless she's got more planned for the future.

WOW! My favourite book of the Dublin Murder Squad series, and my favourite book of 2017 ( so far... but I think it will be hard to beat ). Great combo of murder mystery and High School teenage girl drama, and French does the latter EXCEPTIONALLY well. I don't want to spoil anything... just read it! I'll be re-reading for sure.

Tana French is a wonderful writer, and an absolute favorite of mine! However, this one fell short, at least on the first pass. Maybe I’ll try it again at some future date. The teen speak was way overdone, to the point that it constituted a major distraction. A girls’ boarding school, though! What a brilliant setting!

While I've been listening to Tana French's detective series as audiobooks, I decided to read this one instead, since I had read several reviews complaining of the teenage girls' annoying intonation and slang. (I mean, did i want to spend my commute listening to mean girls' uptalk? Not really?) I had thought about skipping it entirely, but noticed that Detective Conway, one of the two main detectives in this book, is featured in the next book in the series, so I figured I'd just go through with reading it. It was ... ok. There were moments. There was also what I saw as a ridiculous premise, and I was pretty over the book by the end.

My favorite of the series -- I love the stronger touches of the supernatural, that's been just hinted at in the other books so subtly that I thought I was imagining it. It made sense, somehow.
