I enjoyed this, and would enjoy reading more. I hope the series continues.

I’m giving this the three stars I would have given it if it was just an interesting story with generic characters. If I was feeling less charitable it would be 2 for the only recognizable parts of the Bat mythos being Barbara’s name and James Gordon still being part of the GCPD.

Oracle is my favourite character in the DC Universe, and this reimagining just didn’t do it for me.

I've really enjoyed reading these YA takes on established DC characters and this one is no different. I liked the haunted house theme and am glad to see Oracle back, but the overall plot and characters never really hit with the force I wanted them to. Nothing particularly wrong or bad, just not particularly outstanding either. Still, I love seeing Oracle return (DC returning Barbara Gordon to being Batgirl has always rubbed me the wrong way), even if it lacks a lot of what originally made that character sing for me.

While contemporary fiction isn't not my usual thing, this is definitely a fantastic look at disability culture and makes me even more angry they keep reverting Barbara in the canon timeline. This was interesting, and I will say there was an understanding of the character motivations I appreciated. This felt like a story that could be canon, and I think that's what I enjoyed about it, it doesn't need as much suspension of disbelief as I assumed it would based on what I had heard about it. Babs is still Babs, still the same cool and smart person she is, and this showcases her actual resourcefulness without relying on the crutch of the Batfam to prop her up.

Loved the disability representation. I also enjoyed seeing this book quite a bit even though I don’t usually read graphic novels.
