BEAUTY - am i right ladies
This is a super informative yet heartbreaking book. The endless pursuit of beauty, the tyranny of beauty - how the ffffck did we get here? A great dive into the historical, sociological, philosophical relevance of beauty, both collectively and individually.
Im a victim and perpetrator of this futile, unattainable pursuit of beauty (as you probably are too, reader), and reading this was sad, and frustrating, and super insightful, and did i mention sad?
Why cant we all bake a cake full of rainbows and smiles and be happy :'(

Some of the ideas in this book were interesting, but there was a bit too much psychoanalysis for my tastes and it could/should have gone into more depth at several points rather than rely on quoting a philosopher/psychologist/sociologist and then quickly moving on to the next point.
Still, I’d say this is a good entry point for thinking about issues like the societal importance of beauty and how social media and the ubiquity of images (of ourselves and others) influence people.
