What an interesting perspective of the Duggar family from Jill Duggar. The quote from her therapist at the end sums up well the difficult relationship she had with her family, particularly her parents: “Sometimes you have to be okay with other people not being okay with you. And you have to be okay with you not being okay too”. Quite an interesting book!

I listened to the audiobook read by the author herself. I grew up watching the Duggar show so I loved seeing this sort of behind-the-curtain look. The author did a great job explaining what happened on the show that you can still enjoy this even if you never watched it.

This book is impressive, not because of polished or beautiful writing but because of how gracious and kind Jill is, even as she very honestly and courageously addresses the spiritual, emotional, and financial control/ abuse she lived under for so long. I wanted to read this after being impressed with her interviews on Shiny Happy People- the things she has lived through and dealt with are heartbreaking. Even so, her faith in Jesus comes across genuine and transformative as she still seeks to speak of her family with truth and also kindness and generosity of spirit.
