Nah, honey. Your boyfriend ghosted you while you were out of the country and invited his ex into his house for a drink.
Lying about his ex is definitely not on the same level as promising to keep something secret so that SOMEONE ELSE could tell the secret, when it’s their info to share. Not picking her up at the airport with no warning is also a red flag - not concerned about her safety when at a crowded airport in a foreign country. And drinking alone with his ex in his house instead of picking her up:

Cozy romance with yummy food, a 3rd act break up I could've lived without, found family, and all the Scottish summery vibes. A woman goes on a journey to find herself and finds true love and a purpose

It was not believable but I can suspend disbelief for a cute story-HOWEVER the mfc secret keeping and getting in the middle of a serious child abandonment situation/ not respecting the wishes or authority of the wronged party to have decision making is sooooooooo not cool. Very wrong and a full stop in my respect for the character. Even IF that whole storyline wasn’t problematic there are also serious red flags with the mmc. What drives me crazy is the mfc even acknowledged they were red flags AND deal breakers and yet we are supposed to want a HEA?!? Absolutely not. How is this a romance? The books cover is fabulous and for a brief moment it’s a cute story but too quickly all the above becomes too much and ruins the book. Sigh. Very disappointing.

There were some things about this one that irked me, despite being a cute story…

The way Ruby was so instantly loyal to the mayor as her “friend” in the first 3/4 is so bizarre to me. It felt like they had drinks twice and suddenly are best friends with as much loyalty as she feels toward her friend/landlord/visa sponsor and her now boyfriend that she sees, works with and interacts with basically every day.

Also, why were we at first not supporting that he doesn’t want the pub, which is embedded in his family history, to become this chain restaurant and acting like he was wrong thinking she would speak with him at the initial town meeting? She never indicated anything otherwise about her thoughts and loyalties there, so it isn’t strange that he thought she’d be with him on it. Though, sure, he didn’t need to put her on the spot publicly.

I also didn’t love the ‘he is being stubborn and rekindling a relationship with his dad should happen’ idea that Ruby kept pushing. Just because someone is your blood relative, doesn’t mean you are required to let them in your life after they hurt you. It should be on your terms if that happens at all. Ruby (and even Grace) saying that the chain restaurant buying up the old pub might be the dad’s way of trying to reconcile…whaaa? I know it worked out, but still.

This was a recommendation from my local library. It was very cute, quick, lighthearted read. A little predictable but not in a bad way. I enjoyed getting to know the characters. There was a lot of references about being in a romance novel that kind of started to get annoying. Overall I really like the imagery and storyline.

I personally thought this was a cute book. The story from the start had me interested because of my dreams to go to Scotland one day. Living vicariously though books you know lol. I really enjoyed this book, until the end. The very ending was rushed? I don't know. I was waiting for more to happen or wanting more to happen. Maybe its just me, but it really was a good book and a nice change of the kinds of romance books I read.

The spice isn't really there in this book though. There is a love connection, yes. But in terms of the smexy scenes, they are very tame. The book all in all to me would be a 4 star but the spice is a 1 due to the lack there of. There is PDA and mentions of them going at it in the sheets, but you don't get much in forms of details of it.
