Did you know that there is a difference between Whisky and Whiskey? I’m sure my husband would roll his eyes and tell me yes, but I just thought it was two different ways to spell the word. Whoops. Nope, the spelling has to do with where the Whisk(e)y is made. In this case, Scotland, so it is Whisky.
Ruby has decided to uproot her life in New Yoke and move to a tiny Scottish town to work on a cookbook. As soon as she sets foot in Thistlecross, she can’t get over how quaint it is and she’s excited for her adventure. Then she meets Brochan, and she can’t get over how ruggedly handsome and helpful he is. Even though she’s sworn off me, she sees a future with him. As they grow closer, Ruby uncovers secrets and encounters an impossible choice. Now Ruby must decide between love, loyalty, and the Highlands way of life.
Ah, what a cute and cozy read this was! I can see why it was one of Buzzfeed’s Romance books to look out for this year! I loved the writing – I felt like I was in Thistlecross with Ruby, right next to her the whole time. The setting is simply gorgeous and concreted my belief that I need to visit Scotland sometime in my life. The chemistry between Ruby and Brochan was sizzling hot! It was just fantastic. I recommend this for romance readers, especially those who enjoy the grumpy / sunshine trope.
This marvelous book is out Valentine’s Day, Feb 14th. Which is honestly, perfect.
Thank you to the publisher Berkley Publishing, @berkleypub, Berkley Romance, @berkleyromance, and Netgalley @netgalley for this e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Ruby Spencer's Whiskey Year by Rochelle Bilow
This book was cozy, lovely and dreamy.
Ruby Spencer takes a leap of faith and moves to Scotland from Manhattan for a year to write a cookbook.
Brochan is a handsome handy man who fixed things all around. They had a great chemistry but the baggage stops them from moving forward in their life.
Th other characters in the book were delightful.
Rochelle Bilow has created a beautiful atmosphere and setting taking us to Scotland without getting on a plane. I didn't want anything more than to take a long break and live there.
It was an interesting and surprising plot showcasing how the community comes together and how it matters. The writing was good though some bits were repetitive and went haywire.
This was a sweet and simple slow burn romance with grumpy and sunshine leads to root for.

This book was paced very slowly and hard to stay in.
All in all, it was a great storyline though once it got into it.
I enjoyed the characters and light banter.
It was verrrrrrry slow burn and contains a bit of spice

Nice premise, but not well-executed. The author really wanted us to know exactly what her characters were thinking, and didn't seem to trust us or her writing to let us figure out what was going on in Ruby's or Brochan's minds.
The way the main characters met and took it slow was a good touch, but the tedious explanations of their feelings all the time made me forget about how well the story started.
This book would be great for someone who needs figuring out why characters do the things they do, but a better author can trust the readers to figure it out if they have ever read a romance novel before.

I was rather disappointed with this book in which the two characters, although far from being 20 years old, acted more or less like two teenagers and personally they did not seem to have any chemistry at all with each other. The setting was cute, a small village in Scotland, but in short, even there, I didn't get attached to any of the secondary characters, least of all those who are planned for the next book, whether it's Lee or Anne. The one thing this book did very well at is making me want to drink a whiskey.

Here’s the thing… a story about a writer moving to write a cookbook in a beautiful setting is… always going to be a yes from me. The menus? I’ll be recreating them. The landscape? I’ll be dreaming about it.
This book made me want to travel to Scotland, drink a lot of whisky, and fall in love with a lumberjack. Full stop.
