lighthearted

A much-needed palate cleanser after some heavy and more think-y reads. Romance novels are not my genre (much prefer my rom-coms on film) so plenty to roll my eyes at but hard to resist a Scottish Highland backdrop and small moments of delicious food writing. Good mindless summer-ending reading.

I need to stop reading romance, at least for like a year. I've fallen out of love with the genre. I can't connect with these characters, especially when their issues can be solved so easily with a single conversation. I want messy and complicated and compelling, whereas the genre is for easy escapism.

All that to say, it's a me problem and the book is fairly good for what it's trying to be. I'm writing a review more for a reminder to myself than an indication to others.

Per usual with romcom novels, there’s a lot of imaginary things happening off screen and the predictable happily ever after. The story is cute and does impart some thoughts of wanting to move/visit Scotland.
I will say that the FMC’s over-enthusiasm of “Scotland” was a bore and a bit tacky.
