I just felt BORED. I don't know what else to say beyond that. The premise was great and the descriptions of the food and the setting was outstanding, but I just didn't feel anything else. I felt Ruby and Brochan were lacking chemistry and it just didn't feel believable to me. There wasn't much of a plot and Ruby's supposed journey was very lackluster. I just feel like this had such potential but unfortunately fell flat for me.

Short synopsis: Ruby Spencer quits life in New York to go to a small town in Scotland to write a cookbook.

My thoughts: Can I just quit everything and go to Scotland? Pictures look so amazing, definitely a place I’d love to visit!

I liked Ruby as a character, she had a lot of self learning to do and I think the small town in Scotland was the perfect backdrop! The romance didn’t feel forced, or rushed which I adored!

Brochan was so sweet and gentle, and I loved the getaway he planned for Ruby to see the best parts of his country.

The audio on this was very well done, the narrator did an amazing Scottish accent.

Read if you live:
  • Small town romance
  • Found family
  • Scottish food
  • Escaping life
  • Finding oneself

Thank you to PRH Audio and Berkley for a copy of this book! Pub date was Feb 14, 2023 so this is out now!

Sometimes you just need a reset on life and that’s exactly what Ruby did during her whisky year. She quit her job in New York and decided to move to Scotland for a year to write a cookbook but while she was there she gained some much more. She found a family, a place with a purpose during something she loves and a man she never anticipated.
