Couldn’t get onto the writers prose, it was very elementary. Take for example:
“Grace was not ancient, but she was old.
Oldish. Older than Ruby, who was not old, but not young, either. Ruby was middle-ish.”
Could not take more of this writing. Also rubys constant “oh this cute little detail, ofc it’s Scotland!” Got on my nerves. Very disappointed since the cover art and blurb are so intriguing.

I'm afraid the book is right, Outlander really did make me love all things Scotland, so it wasn't hard for this book to intrigue me. The story was fine (I honestly expected more), even if the writing was a bit odd at times. (editing wise)
Very cute. I think I would have preferred it with less descriptive sex scenes but it seems that's what sells.
Like if a buzzfeed article came to life with a hatred towards men with ED and women who put careers first
I adored this book! I do a lot of audiobooks but this book felt like the best way to enjoy it was cuddled up in a blanket with your favorite drink. Which is exactly what I did! I loved how Ruby chose Thistlecross as her destination, I loved the cozy cottage, her second mom in Grace, the small town vibe, gorgeous Scottish setting with the incredibly hunky/broody Scotsman Brochan. The food and whisky descriptions were mouthwatering and I just loved the way this story wrapped up!
Solid 4.5/5 stars for me, my only gripe was it was a bit slow to get to the romance but once there it was done well. Not quite a clean romance but also the spicy scenes were just enough to be steamy and then fade to black. I’d say a great intro to spicy books if someone doesn’t enjoy full on scenes but also wants more than a kissing scene.

I thought this book was super cute! And am impressive debut! I’m a sucker for romances with Scottish men (I have Samantha Young to thank for that!) so this book was right up my alley! American-born Rudy moves to the Scottish Highlands to write a cookbook after feeling unfulfilled living and working in NYC (and after a string of bad relationships). Her plan is to live in a small Scottish cabin for a year to find herself and to develop her cookbook. The last thing she imagined would happen was to find a home in Thistlecross; and find love with a strapping, bearded Scot. This reminded me so much of one of my fave books, Much Ado About You, but it was different enough that I still really enjoyed the book. I didn’t get emotionally in the characters as I did with MAAY, because they didn’t seem as developed to me. Ruby, the h, was written in a way that seemed younger than her 35 years. Brochan, the H, was a hunky cinnamon roll. I thought the book was written well and the story was interesting; just not as emotional as I was expecting. But overall, it was a cute, heartwarming, "fade to black" romance and I would recommend it! Just be warned - you will get hungry reading the book!
Thank you so much, @berkleyromance, for the eARC and finished copy of the book; and @prhaudio for the complementary audiobook! Nikki Massoud did a fantastic job narrating! Stay tuned for a formal post!❤️

I’m growing to detest the 3rd act breakup trope, but otherwise this was cute enough. Made me want to drink whiskey and cook cozy food.
This was a DNF for me. I tried to wait it out to see if it ever got better, but 2/3 in, I could not stand any more. I do not appreciate the trend of "chatty" voice in narration, the main character was so vapid and pointless, and the writing so over-the-top. I was rolling my eyes and saying "really?" aloud throughout. And that's not even counting the ridiculous and illogical secret-keeping. Terrible.
