Star Wars Legends Project #137

Background: Tales from the Clone Wars was published in August 2010 as an exclusive collection of the webcomics that accompanied each episode of the first season of The Clone Wars animated series. The stories were written by [a:Henry Gilroy|153690|Henry Gilroy|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/u_50x66-632230dc9882b4352d753eedf9396530.png] and [a:Pablo Hidalgo|191974|Pablo Hidalgo|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/u_50x66-632230dc9882b4352d753eedf9396530.png], with art by [a:Jeff Carlisle|435450|Jeff Carlisle|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/u_50x66-632230dc9882b4352d753eedf9396530.png], [a:Katie Cook|2636595|Katie Cook|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1381101345p2/2636595.jpg], [a:Grant Gould|2738704|Grant Gould|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/u_50x66-632230dc9882b4352d753eedf9396530.png], [a:Tom Hodges|2055079|Tom Hodges|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/u_50x66-632230dc9882b4352d753eedf9396530.png], and [a:Daniel Falconer|3081691|Daniel Falconer|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1346549946p2/3081691.jpg]. Gilroy was head developer and writer for the first season of The Clone Wars, so his involvement makes sense. Hidalgo has written a huge variety of material for various Star Wars properties and is currently a member of the Lucasfilm Story Group in charge of curating the ongoing canon. All of the artists have dabbled in various corners of Star Wars work, but most of their story work is confined to their contributions here.

Tales from the Clone Wars is, of course, set throughout the first season of Clone Wars, over a period of several months after the Battle of Geonosis (22 years before the Battle of Yavin). The main characters vary, but are pretty much all characters from the show.

Summary: 22 stories serve as companion pieces to each episode from the first season of The Clone Wars, expanding our knowledge outside of just what appeared onscreen in those episodes.

Review: Yeah, that summary is a bit lacking . . . I don't want to summarize all 22 individual stories, and you don't want to read 22 individual summaries. More importantly, each story averages about 7 pages, including 1 intro page, so there's generally not even enough happening to actually summarize.

The art styles are really all over the place, but mostly enjoyable and the variety isn't too distracting. The quality of the stories is also kind of all over the place, but really they're ultimately all pretty forgettable. This might be a bit more enjoyable to read as it was originally intended, episode-by-episode while watching the first season of The Clone Wars. But, on the other hand, the first season of the show is the weakest by multiple orders of magnitude, so I can't really say I'd advise that. This is not a painful read, but definitely only worthwhile if you're a true completionist.
