Wow! There are a lot of versions to this book of scripture. I read the King James version for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. First time I've read this book from cover to cover. It was good to read the stories I've heard all my life, but it was great to read the not so well-known stories in their context and gain a deeper understanding of the gospel Christ teaches.

You know I love a sequel that completely changes the world introduced in the first book of a series and this is pretty much the The Other Wind of sacred literature.

Bit of a mishmash really. Lots of familiar stories, an insight into the values of the times, much repetition. Some wonderful resonant language. Much of it is of no particular interest unless you're a student of religion or have some other reason to read it. As a general reader I found it more of a slog than, say, James Joyce's Ulysses (and some of it frankly more bewildering too). Not something I'd want to recommend or read again, but at least it's a 'great book' to tick off my list.

Oh boy. Really hard to say anything new about a book that's gotten so much attention in the last couple of millennia.
