I don't care about Akito's past, she's still an absolutely horrible person and I want to strangle her

This one was a bit jumbled, but nevertheless charming.

This is a fairly uneventful volume after the revelations of the last one. It does show more of Machi's character though and shows the level of understanding developing between her and Yuki. There's also plenty to enjoy in the relationship between Haru and Rin and Hiro's unlikely connection with her. The friendship between Tohru and Rin is also pretty sweet, especially as they have such different personalities.

Jumping up and down on what just happened in this volume and anxiously dying to know what's gonna happen. Natsuki Takaya Fruits Basket is BRILLIANT!!!!!!

Well, the pace certainly picks up in this volume of Fruits Basket, we learn what was going on with Machi (and Nao but I tend to forget about him if I am honest), Hiro gets to admit to the guilty feelings he has been holding onto, we find out why Rin appears to have disappeared off the face of the earth and thanks to that we get to see the blackest of the black Haru's, and Tohru basically confronts the feelings we know she has had for a number of volumes.

I think volume 17 really marks the beginning of the end of this series, whilst volume 18 sets everything in place for the roller-coaster type finish.
