Love Poirot's intuitiveness and how he can bring all the evidence together at the end. Christie holds back just enough evidence that you can't figure it out for yourself but can make many deductions of your own. Very enjoyable!

another simple & straightforward mystery from christie. i did find myself unengaged or uninterested at some points in the story as it did feel like certain parts of it dragged on for no particular reason, but christie does a great job of intentionally including small details that become incredibly important later, some of which were introduced in these duller moments. she does have a fantastic talent for weaving together her story to highlight the importance & role of each character in the overarching mystery using these small details. perhaps i am slightly biased due to my preference for more flowery / descriptive / complex styles of writing & a love for greater world & atmosphere building, all of which i feel christie does not really do well enough for me. i do feel somewhat indifferent towards the characters in the book, even poirot who is being introduced as a reoccurring series character. i accidentally read the series of books starring poirot out of order & was familiar with him from another story but i still didn't particularly care for him or feel inclined to want to read more stories with him?? for example, with the sherlock holmes series, holmes is so silly & charming & likeable to me that i want to keep reading more about him since his character is established so well & lovingly. poirot, on the other hand, i feel i know nothing about. generally, i feel that i have no reason to root for or really care much for any particular character in the book due to the lack of world & character building, but, again, this might just be because i prefer & am more familiar with works that are more complex in style & spend more time elaborating on these elements. overall, i did enjoy this book & did appreciate its directness at some points. perhaps i just need to get used to christie's simple & direct type of delivery to appreciate her stories & characters more?!
