Mean girl vibes but so much more! Loved these characters and how the grew and developed. Daria is the popular rich senior cheer captain who hides that she’s actually struggling in life. Penn is the guys from nothing, senior football captain whose sister disappered 4 years prior, mother who died and step dad whose a dead beat. Two people with so much against them. So many secret, hatred, family issues, friend drama, love, a total hot mess of characters but it all worked so well.
Enemies to lovers, forced to live together, sibiling drama, high school drama and bullies. I didn’t like Via even after it all, she went way too overboard.

“Being sorry for breaking something doesn’t make it whole again.”

“Pretty Reckless,” by L.J. Shen

This was a good bully romance. I would consider it on the lighter side of bully romances and not overly dark. There are a ton of moving parts in the book beyond the relationship with the couple and it has an inappropriate teacher x student relationship, a sister that caused problems with the main couple, forced proximity, different social classes, and tons of trauma that has been simmering for years. The girl being a bully mean girl was different than others I’ve read so that was fresh. I really liked it, and I can’t wait to read more books in this series, 4 out of 5 stars.

Pretty Reckless was my first book I read by LJ Shen and I have been hooked ever since. Penn's sister is in Daria's mom's dance class which Daria is also in. Daria is upset about how her mom's like's his sister better. Penn kisses her and Daria has feelings for him. Then Penn's sister disappears. After Penn's sister disappears he blames Daria.

Penn's mother passes away, and his stepfather kicks him out. Daria's mother feels bad for Penn and decideds to foster him. Daria is not happy about the news. She has her own things going on at school that no one knows about. Penn moves in and decides to make Daria's life hard. He's still blames her for his sister's disapperance, and wants to make her life a living hell. He doesn't know the stuff she's going through at school. As he's making her life hard, he starts to have feelings for her, at the same time Daria starts to have feelings for Penn. They start seeing each other in private, but then everything shifts when Penn's sister returns.

Penn wants to be there for his sister, but also wants to be there for Daria. Penn's sister puts on a show for the family acting all innocent, when in reality she's determines to make Daria's life hell for what she had to go through while she was away. I love how all the characters had a chance to grow and how Daria's relationship with her family changed throughout the book.

I really enjoyed this book, and am excited for more by L.J. Shen!
