I’m surprised at the high ratings for this one. The first of this series captivated me and made me so excited for the world, romance, politics and magic system. But this was considerably bad. A true filler sequel in a series that should have just been a duology. I’m starting to think that this is just how this particular author writes, and it’s just not my cup of tea.

15+ Some violence, slavery, derogatory comments, some sexual tension/pining, kissing, murder, and deals with the devil. Yes, literally.
Okay, we have officially turned up the heat from book one. Absolutely loved this. The characters are phenomenal and Cyrus... CYRUS. no one can replace Aaron Warner, but bless Tahereh Mafi for blessing us with both of those men. Y'all...I'm so excited to continue this series. Give me the next book because I'm ready for whatever you throw my way.
Ok, reread this to prepare for the 3rd book. Did I completely skip Kamran's entire section? Yes, yes I did. Did I miss anything? No, not at all. We all know I'm here for Alizeh and Cyrus. Anyone else is disposable and irrelevant. Mafi's writing is so fast-paced and stunning and I can't wait for book 3. Always such a fun time.

This book left me as confused as poor Alizeh 🫠
The dialogues lost me several times because they were beating around the bush for too long…
The book was good, but I admit I expected a bit more from it. But, even though it wasn’t as dynamic as the first book, I think it was meant to settle the power players and their purposes for the next instalment and everything will make sense by the end of the third book.
My thoughts without context:
- Hazan 🫶🏻
- Kamran’s head is shoved too far up his 🍑 the man is dead set on diabolizing poor Alizeh. I don’t like him anymore ⚡️
- Miss Huza and Omid are annoying 🙄
- I want to hug Cyrus and punch him at the same time. Am I feeling tough love for him ? 🫣
- Sarra has a weird vibe and I don’t trust her 👀
- Daaaaaaaamn that’s some love declaration. If this isn’t endgame, I’ll be disappointed 💔
- Thunderbird incoming 🪶 woooop woooooop
