You've Lost a Lot of Blood is a short story collection by Eric LaRocca. It contains a couple of stories - firstly a sort of poem about violence, the second two queer men talking in a car about themselves and the third is a story echoing the violence and filth of Tetsuo The Iron Man.
That said, I mean that third story really was such a direct rip off of the movie that I struggled to find originality in it. The second story was like the two same people talking to each other. The poetry is whatever.
After the first book, I struggled to find a different voice in this novel and I found the switching storylines really frustrating and distracting. Two or three chapters of a story would take place, then another story would have one chapter and repeat. I might read works again by this author, but it wasn't truly that interesting.

I, probably like many, came to You've Lost Alot of Blood after reading LaRocca's Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke. It's really hard for another book to live up to THGWSWLS's reputation and just the experience of reading it for the first time - so it seems unfair to measure this one against that one. You've Lost Alot of Blood is doing a lot - it's almost like 3 books in one; poetry, a novella, and a screen play type thing (script?). Not as grotesque, shocking, and cinematic as THGWSWLS but still experimental, surprising, and unsettling.

I sadly didn’t enjoy this one as much as his other. I just felt like the author should have just picked one storyline because I was confused the whole time( I finally realized what was the point with 1 page left of the book. I don’t know if it was explained earlier and I missed it or what). Also it was not even that scary or horrific(really only one part). The book part was honestly so boring and confusing. This one was just not for me.

TLDR; 4 rating, and I’m not sure how I feel about this one.
Content warnings at the bottom. :)

Last year I read Tender is the Flesh by Augustina Bazterrica, and much like that book, this one is difficult to review. I know I liked the book, but I’m not sure, exactly, how I feel. The book is well written, and I love the way it’s written. It reminds me of found fiction, and good found footage at that.

The story reminds me a lot of
those spiraling, restarting horror movies I sometimes enjoy.
But again, much like with those kinds of movies, it’s hit or miss and hardly ever done well. While I called this particular twist, because these kinds of stories, movie or otherwise, are very formulaic, it was still interesting.

There were some typos, but since this book was self-published, I’m not gonna hold it against LaRocca.

Rating: 4
Would I recommend? Yes, especially if you enjoy movies like In the Tall Grass/Triangle/Happy Death Day, and true crime.
