I just love the casual representation of queer people so much !!! It was the perfect density and weight for it to be readable even when there was a lot going on and it was still catchy enough for my adhd brain to be able to finish it. Also overall pretty comfy vibes. Love it very much <3

I really enjoyed this book. I thought the story was interesting, I loved each character so much. There we so many moments that made me wanna punch some transphobes, but also some that warmed my queer heart. I think Julian is definitely a fav new character. He was so funny and wonderful and silly and made me feel so emotional. Just ✨fictional men✨.
My biggest issue was with the pacing. I felt like the story took a long while to get going and it was very dense only in the last fifty or so pages.
The trans rep was phenomenal though. I really related to a lot of moments and situations (same as I did with Felix ever after).
I'm also very glad I knew just enough Spanish to not need to Google the few sentences 😅. I'm very proud of myself for that haha.

This is a sweet and heartfelt story of finding onesself when drowned in a culture set in traditional ways.

The journey that Yadriel has is backed by this firecracker that is Julian, and further strengthened by the interactions had by Maritza, Flaca, Luca, Rocky, and FINALLY, his own dad.

The reason for the little dip in the rating would be how expected but sudden the climax is.
You have this adorable teen romance, sparse with tense moments of family or spirit antics, when suddenly Tio Catriz at the centre of an evil power well trying to bring back Bahlam from Xibalba and curse all the brujx around him.

Obviously the mystery aspect needed to be resolved, but the action jump was sudden and short. Loved the story overall and those last few chapters showed major jumps for a lot of people around Yadriel.

I enjoyed the book but I wasn’t able to totally relate to the characters. However as a person who isn’t involved with a lot of Latinx culture I learned a lot and I appreciated the book. There are a lot of funny characters and it’s a cute story.

I LOVE this book!!! It has an amazing representation and is different from other LGBTQA books I have read. The relationships in this book were though out and realistic and grew to become more understanding and loving. I absolutely loved the characters personalities and the setting. Aiden brought these characters and places alive through his words and descriptions and the ending was heartbreaking but also fulfilling. I can’t wait to read more of Aiden’s work and see what he does with this world.

I love loved the concept and world building  of this book.
I also really loved the banter and relationships Yadriel has with Julian and Martiza. The love story was so adorable I really wouldn’t have been able to handle a bittersweet ending between those two 😭
The climax had me simultaneously bawling and cursing @ Thomas for the pain! The way my gut dropped when I turned onto Chapter 24…it was narratively such a good choice but I was also pissed because it did its job of wrecking me, you know?

I found the twist/reveal upsetting, it’s like, even though I figured it out beforehand because this character was the only viable option—it’s just devastating because you don’t /want/ it to be them. But I also feel like that’s why it works 😭 yet another great narrative choice for maximum pain 😭😭!
