Hefty book, definitely had some parts that I don't necessarily think we're necessary. However, the journey with Ozzie etc was great.

I have to say, the way the wormholes worked was originally quite a shock to me in book 1 but it grew on me rapidly, it's (from what I've read) a fairly unique way of connecting the multiple planets in the commonwealth and I love it.

I enjoyed this a lot more than the first book. The plot felt a lot more cohesive in this book. The original book followed a dozen different characters who were all doing their own things that were barely related or not at all related to each other’s stories. I found it really hard to be invested in some of the characters when they seemed irrelevant to the plot. This book finally brings all those characters together with the same goal and is a lot more satisfying.

I think all of the set up of the first book paid off well but it was a lot of set up. Probably too much set up. This is an extremely slow book. I wasn’t really invested in the story until just under halfway through this book or about 1300 pages of this world's story to feel like I cared. After that point there was tons of mystery and “who can you trust” sort of drama that I loved.

I think this world is very interesting but the writing is so slow and overly descriptive that I find a hard time staying engaged. The combat and action sequences especially are very hard to read. They will be fighting or building up to this highly awaited intense scene but spend 2-5 pages describing the beach and the mountains or the engine in the cars they are driving. I DON’T CARE ABOUT HOW THE SUN LOOKS NEXT TO THE WET DESERT AT THIS POINT. It really destroys the momentum when I am forced to skim through description after description of irrelevant things. It ruined the climax of the story for me which was unfortunate since I was really looking forward to it.

I still enjoyed a lot of the build up in this story and I connected with a lot of the characters. They were all very flawed but it showed the highs and lows of the human race in a realistic and compelling way. Mellanie and Ozzie in particular are my favorites.

I’m glad I read it but unless you are a die-hard sci-fi fan I would skip this series.

i really loved the world building and stories of these two books a lot and i definitely recommend them! i just couldn't bear to give them 5 stars because they suffer a bit from classic man-writing-scifi problems (the way women's bodies are talked about, etc).

Long but keeps you engaged

This is a brick of a book, over 1200 pages. But it didn't feel like it was this long at all. The pacing was excellent throughout and I found myself burning through pages. A common complaint about Judas Unchained is the length of the description sections - I I however found them very captivating. I thoroughly enjoy Hamiltons vision for a future.

I'll read it again in a few years.

I feel super accomplished finishing this book. I really enjoyed the world and the characters. My favorite parts were definitely the silfen and traveling through their worlds. Pieces of the ending felt too simple based on the buildup but they were overall satisfying.

3.5 stars really. Judas Unchained takes off right way [b:Pandora's Star|45252|Pandora's Star (Commonwealth Saga, #1)|Peter F. Hamilton|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1440699949l/45252._SX50_.jpg|987015] ends, so the duology is really just one big book.

After loving [b:Great North Road|13573419|Great North Road|Peter F. Hamilton|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1344371600l/13573419._SY75_.jpg|19154394] by this author, I was somewhat disappointed by these two book.

What I liked:
Cool space travel and advanced medical technology

What I didn't like:
The story was repetitive and bloated. I think the two books could have been half the length and it would be much better.
