This series is absolutely perfect. I would change nothing about. It made me laugh, cry, experience true shock and horror. I don’t think it’s a series for everyone but man.
R. F. Kuang,in the unlikely event you ever seen this, I’m DYING for this series but from Nezah’s perspective. PLEASE. I’m not ready to be done yet. 🥲

This book was so sad it tore a piece of my heart off and I know I will never get it back.
It was the most realistic fantasy (if I even get to say that) I’ve ever read. RF Kuang didn’t hold back on anything, she wasn’t afraid of making her fans heartbroken as long as she kept true to the ugly reality of war.
There was definitely no other way of ending this trilogy and I am glad it ended the way it did. I am upset and heartbroken but I know it was and it will ever be one of the best trilogies I will ever come across in my life.

That was... It's NOT an enjoyable read.
Ok, hear me out. RF Kuang is a superb storyteller. I love the trilogy. I love her prose. But holy fucking shit the protagonist is such an asshole.
Again, I UNDERSTAND that she was trying to tell a "you live long enough to see yourself become the villain" story. But there was no redeeming quality to the protagonist at all. Her alliance shifted a lot, and maybe that happened in a war, but this just made her seem groundless with no real aim in the story. She has NO empathy at ALL, and when she does, she makes it about herself. She is *again* supposedly very smart, but she fell into the trap of putting pride above all. This is very personal, but she is exactly the kind of person I despise irl so this book is a chore to get through.
Nezha... sigh, i LOVE Nezha, but there are several scenes where I was just ???que??? Flabbergasted by his decisions.
Kitay is the only one deserving of love and all the good things in the world i feel.
Some characters seem one dimensional (ehem Riga), and she really does not build up the foundation of the relationships between, say, Nezha and Rin, to make some of the scenes "worth it"
The pacing is also off sometimes. I feel like kuang has a talent to drag a lot of journey montage to the point that it put me in a reading slump in the middle of the book... This happened in the second book, too, during the war preparation scene. But this is personal preferences, again.
