Dominique, a single mother following her Grand’ Mere's stories to Whittaker House in search of an ancestor; Michelle, Dominique’s lover, who has journeyed to the Berkshire Mountains to heal her own traumas; and Kaye, Michelle’s sister, a seer whose visions reveal the past and future secrets of the former safehouse along with her own.

For each of them, true liberation can come only from uncovering their connection to history and to the spirits awaiting peace and redemption within the walls of Whittaker House.

Excellent read! I really enjoyed the combination of history and the supernatural. The characters are vivid and rich and I really liked how they were connected! There are many layers to this story. Multiple timelines, past and present, characters and hops they all connect. It hops around quite a bit and is a little confusing at times trying to keep track of all the people and time period. Even with that it was an interesting and unique story about strength, resilience, love and finding yourself!

Well and tactfully written. Hops from present day to the 1800's between several women and their connection to the underground railroad. Trigger warnings: rape, lots of it. Infant loss, lots of it.

There are a lot of different perspectives in this book so it is a challenge keeping everyone straight.  Some of the storylines seem completely disconnected, but it will make sense in the end.  This is a story I've not seen before and it very discussable.

Honestly. I wanted to give this a two star rating, but the second half of the book picked up to the point that I even somewhat enjoyed it. But for the most part, I had to force myself to finish this book. It’s very hard to follow, the timeline jumps around (which usually I have no issue with) but there is little to no explanation of these characters and how they relate to the story line until over halfway through the novel, and that’s only if you remember the random instances from the beginning of the book. Some characters story lines just end with no questions answered, and some things seem to be added purely for shock factor and no added depth to the story. Although the author does create several emotionally moving points, realizations and facts of a truly horrific part of history, I would not recommend this book.

Loved this book. The on,y thing that kept it from a 5 rating was how often it switched time and character. It was hard to keep up.

I couldn't put this book down. I was completely sucked in and never lost my focus while reading this book. This was very well written. There were visions, ghosts and intertwined lives that came together for one compelling story. Highly recommend this
