feels like getting to hear a wise and gentle grandparent respond to your big questions, bewilderments, and grapplings with the nature of life. tender and calming and heart opening to read during a time of feeling a little lost. and probably any other time too

I liked his philosophy, it combined all sorts of things, and it was just... simplified. I like the idea of a simple life.

Anam Cara means "soul-friend" in Gaelic. The term originated in Irish monasticism.

This book is a treasury of Celtic spirituality and poetry. John O'Donoghue takes us through the mysteries of soul friendship, the spirituality of the senses, the virtues of solitude, through old age, and finally to death as an invitation to freedom. It is rife with stories in the Celtic tradition.

I found this book to be a fascinating look at ancient spirituality. I think most of the ideas are universal and just as relevant today as they were back then.

While at times a bit scattered, this book is a comforting, warm, and challenging look into the mystery and wisdom of Celtic spirituality. I would recommend it to anyone who needs a reminder of the mystery and wonder of being alive or inspiration to reconnect with your soul.
