Really enjoyed this book. I love all interactions between Bugg and Tehol. A belly laugh every time.

New continent, new characters, new settings; a new starting point altogether. "Gardens of the Moon" is book #1 of the series, it is also said to be the weakest novel of the "Malazan Book of the Fallen". Well, "Midnight Tides" could easily be a novel of its own, and a very good one at that. Once again, the ending is the best bit as Erikson seems to be particularly talented when it comes to closing a story the "right way". What else? Trull Sengar and Tehol Beddict are two of the greatest characters in this whole series. The passages between Tehol and his manservant, Bugg, are some of the best dialogue and moments of dramatic irony you’ll find anywhere in modern fantasy. Beautiful, as usual.

So far this has been my least favourite read of this series because of the length of time for the action to get started. However once it did, it was a great read and all the build up made sense. Pretty typical of each of the entries in the series but again it shows just how brilliant a plotter the author is. There are some wonderfully humorous scenes in this one - much more so than the others I found so that was also a saving grace. Fantastic characters!
