Basically a very heavy story. But very good.
Basically a very heavy story. But very good.
The way a person behaves is not always an accurate reflection of their character. Sometimes, a person's behavior is shaped by the situation.
I don't make it a habit to review every manhwa I read because I read too many to really write decent reviews about them, but I felt like this one deserves a few words to praise it.
Firstly I want to speak about the technical aspects of the story, such as the art. Honestly speaking I found the artwork to be simple yet effective. What I mean with this is that the artwork was beautifully done but not overdone so that it takes away from the story that is going to be told. I love when this is done because it allows the story to shine through by itself without too much assistance from the artwork, and Dark Heaven is a perfect example of this being done extremely well. So that alone would have gotten the Webcomic five stars in my opinion.
But the art was not what made me love this comic. That would be the plot and storyline. To say this Webcomic covers a variety of issues that aren't always portrayed in the literature of any kind would be downplaying it. I mean, this comic is definitely not for the faint of heart. It covers triggering issues such as rape, abuse, bullying, sexual child abuse, drug abuse and extreme racism and xenophobia just to name a few. It is a story riddled with conflicts and issues, but its done in a way that the reader understands because they interlink so beautifully. The way the plot is written helps readers understand that actions, no matter how insignificant they may seem, may lead to some disastrous consequences.
I loved the main characters of Conor and Simon. They are so beautifully flawed and their romance is anything but perfect, yet their devotion towards each other and the way they keep gravitating back to each other makes them one of my favorite couples I have ever read about. The relationship between the two main characters is incredibly flawed. They have a lot going against them. But the way they fight to be together, help each other when things seem bad and how they inevitable become each other's safe haven is proof that there will always be good in the bad or light in the dark. It makes the title of the comic pretty fitting. They are each other's heaven in the darkness.
You need to keep this in mind before reading this comic. It really is a hard read for those who might be easily affected by triggering things. This is a true portrayal of the real world and real issues that are overlooked every day. The artist did not exaggerate the bitter and judgemental world we live in, instead, they brought to light issues that we tend to only care about when we are directly affected by it. This comic is trying to shed light on the fact that even if these issues do not impact us, they are still vitally important and need to be taken seriously. Things like corrective rape, xenophobia, hatred towards gay or transgender individuals, these are all things that are very much real yet hardly covered in media these days.
I started this review with a quote that I thought was very fitting to my overall thoughts on this comic. This is a good representation of how someone's circumstances determine their actions and behaviors later on in life. And sometimes a person's actions are a direct reaction to the environment or situation they are in. So we should not always take everything at face value.
Finally, this was just a beautifully done comic. The artwork and plot complemented each other perfectly. The characters and their emotions came across clearly. The issues and conflicts in the comic were true representations of the real world, which made this story even more realistic and enjoyable.
I see myself rereading this comic again and again in the years to come. Five stars are almost too little for this brilliant piece of work.

Loved it!!! Really enjoyed I think it really touches on real world problems. It’s dark but I love that the couple got a happy ending I wish we got more at end about especially after all they went through. Glad they got their HEA together.

Literally loved this. I experienced so many emotions, what a ride. This is somehow dark and deep but also light and wholesome. My only complaint is the art was a bit weird in certain ways (monkey ears, mega Dorito bods, and weird hair) and the ending was rushed and left several things wide open instead of bringing them to a conclusion. But so good anyways! Amazing read!
DNF at chapter 22/85
The art was okay, the characters were complex, the story was dark and solid but a bit boring and slow so it didn't keep my interest any longer. I wouldn't dfn it but to be honest I need something light these days. If you are fan of dark, sadness filled lgbt romance with drugs, discrimination and bad choices, read it.
