this is the type of thing you have to binge mindlessly so you won't gouge ur eyes out or kill yourself
it starts out ok like nothing remarkable but its just relationship drama for the most part yknow? it's when the author tries to make social commentary that it really makes you go *eugh* -_- bc they obviously didnt research enough and there are so many things that are in poor taste/insensitive bordering on problematic. like regardless of the intention they might have had when they wrote it, that doesn't change the offensiveness no matter how many "good intentions" or that they wanted to "bring an issue to light" not that it was all bad its just that they should have done better, especially if they knew they were going to be dealing with such sensitive topics like racism and homophobia
i must say i liked the non-linear narrative and how the reader puts together all the pieces in simon and connors past and the art was nice for the most part (THAT FIRST CHAPTER WAS MINDBLOWING LIKE 0_0 WOAH THAT COMPOSITION THE ART THE EVERYTHINGGGGGGGGG) tho during the last part it was just a bunch of excuses to draw sex scenes which like ok maybe this ones on me bc this is a BL webtoon..... still idc my point stands ¯\_(u_u)_/¯
the characters reallyyyyy got on my nerves and the main CP was meh and it felt kinda weird sometimes (but maybe that was just a personal thing....) and of course the tropey female characters *cough* veronica *cough* like there was absolutely no need to make her this crazy stalker that wanted to ruin the main characters' relationship that was a completely unnecessary plot line imo. ibh it was a lot better when it was just angst + the murder mystery and once that got resolved the story should have wrapped up but instead it dragged on and didnt even solve all the plot points. for example the kiev and connor relationship? completely forgotten like ig they made up offscreen or smth but i was really looking forward to them having a conversation and sorting things out but it never happened. and the way the whole t-rex agency stuff was resolved? totally rushed. they just killed off the chief and that was it.
im just- ughhh bc it started out fineeeee but all those things that had actual potential were poured down the drain. it makes me so frustrated (ಥ益 ಥ)
It's definitely for you if you're looking for a fluffy romance. But if you're looking for a good story and can deal with the above mentioned topics, go for it. I really liked it. I was so surprised to see a BL webtoon dealing with such serious topics. The story is really good, characters are well written, the art is beautiful. It contains some angst but they have a happy ending. So no worries

After spending several nights bingeing this ‘till 2AM, I’m left but a shell of myself….
When I went looking for friends-to-lovers manga (my fav romance trope), Dark Heaven caught my eye as one of the highest rated results. Who was gonna tell me it would completely and thoroughly destroy my heart with its drawn-out portrayal of how senseless hate can ruin the most innocent bond of love.
I think I cycled through every human emotion while reading this story, it was truly incredible. I had no idea that JUNS would tackle racism, homophobia, addiction and several more heavy topics in such a hard-hitting manner. I cried way too many times for everything the main characters were put through; this certainly isn't one for the weak of heart.
~★~ What is this story about? ~★~
Conor, a Korean-American guitarist, and Simon, the lead singer of their band—Dark Heaven—have been best friends since middle school. Now, their band is broken up, Simon’s risen to fame as a soloist, and Conor is left in the shadow of their years-long-now-ended romance. What the public doesn’t know, is that a notorious hate group targeting homosexuals and people of colour found their next victim in young Conor, crushing his fingers so he’d be unable to play guitar again. Now, Simon’s life is falling to pieces without Conor by his side. With hate groups and murderers making the daily headlines, Conor is intent on finding Simon again…

Everything about Dark Heaven makes me want to scream. I feel so strongly about Conor and Simon; the way they bonded as kids was so sweet to watch unfold, especially with how desperately Conor needed a friend. The way the timeline jumps back and forth really makes the love between these characters feel even more tangible, making it hurt all the more knowing it's been broken apart by the society surrounding them. I was rooting so hard for these two to find each other once again and reconcile their fractured bond, a journey which didn't dissapoint.
For all the pain in this series, there is both meaning and great payoff. I'll never get back all the tissues I needed while reading Dark Heaven for the first time, though I'll also never forget the way it impacted me. This is easily one of my favourite webcomics out there, and it deserves all the praise it already gets. Such beautiful art, with a meaningful love story that emerges from a pitfall of darkness.
